January 2022, an opportunity to make some small sustainable changes to improve your health. Here are ACs 5 New Year resolution suggestions to getting the best out of yourself for the year ahead.
#1 GO TO THE GYM MORE OFTEN
2021 was full of uncertainty, closures and various other obstacles limiting progress in the gym. Why not make the commitment to going once more every week in 2022? This doesn’t have to be to the gym necessarily but being more active and taking part in an additional activity each week compared to you last year average.
#2 EAT MORE FRUITS AND VEGGIES
It’s no secret that fruit and veg is good for you. Half of your plate should consist of these healthy foods at every meal.
That being said, many people still don’t reach this goal. The new year is a great time to start incorporating more fruits and veggies into your diet in order to improve your health.
Aim to have two servings of fruit and three servings of veggies per day. This could be having an orange as an afternoon snack and simply adding broccoli to your lunch.
If you find it difficult to hit these numbers daily, try aiming for them over the course of the week instead. That way if Monday doesn’t go as planned, you have six other days to make up for it.
Either way, getting all those fruits and veggies is worth it for the new year!
#3 GO ALCOHOL-FREE FOR ONE MONTH
January is the perfect time to embark on an alcohol fast. All the major festivities have passed, and it’s back to hard work and healthy eating habits.
‘Dry Jan’ can have some amazing benefits for your health and fitness.
For one, it’ll help you drop those extra holiday pounds in no time! Alcohol is loaded with empty calories that don’t do anything for your body except make you gain weight.
It’s also known to dehydrate you, which isn’t good when you’re trying to stay hydrated and healthy during the winter months.
Not drinking for a month will also give your liver a break from all the processing it has to do. Over time, this can lead to decreased inflammation and improve your overall health.
Challenge yourself this new year and go alcohol-free for the month of January! You may be surprised at how great you feel when it’s all over and your increase in productivity.
#4 SET SMALL GOALS
As we regularly mention; small sustainable changes are what we are after. Its better setting yourself 2 achievable goals than 5 unattainable ones. The last thing you want to do is get to the end of January and realise you’ve already failed!
This new year, set some small goals instead that you know you can achieve. This will help to boost your confidence and keep you on track for the bigger goals later on.
To start, write out a list of things you want to achieve over the next 12months and then break them down into smaller monthly goals.
Smaller goals are also less daunting and make it easier for you to stick with them long-term. Do not be afraid to start small – you’ll be surprised at how much more motivated it makes you feel!
#5 HYDRATE
Water is the source of all life. And yet, most people don’t drink enough of it.
How much water do you drink every day? For the majority of us, especially in a country like Hong Kong to suggest adding another 1 or 2 litres of water each day would be of real benefit to our hydrations levels.
Water not only keeps you hydrated, but it also helps to flush toxins out of your system and keep your skin looking healthy.
Not a fan of water? Add some fruit slices for flavour.
Eventually, aim to drink at least eight glasses of water per day for optimal health. And if you find that you’re struggling to hit this number, try using a water bottle tracker to stay accountable.
We hope these ideas help set you up for a healthy and prosperous 2022!
